MEND’S NEWEST ADDITION

We were so excited to welcome Adok Evelyn back from maternity leave recently and couldn’t wait to meet the newest member of her family, especially after we heard her name!  Evelyn’s latest addition is a baby girl named Marilyn Tull after Invisible Children’s Communications Officer Malorie Tull.  Malorie is a difficult name to pronounce in the local language, Luo, so they call her Marilyn, a common name in Uganda.

Malorie just celebrated her one year anniversary with IC Uganda and is often seen around the MEND Center creating the media that lets us all get to know the seamstresses just a little bit better. Along the way she has gotten to know the ladies well and is honored to have a namesake in the MEND family.

Namesakes are a valued tradition in Ugandan culture.  More than just inheriting a name, it is hoped that a namesake will adapt the good qualities and behaviors of their new role model.  We can’t think of a more deserving person for this honor. Best of luck to Malorie and Baby Marilyn!
