Rose walked out of the MEND center yesterday dressed impeccably in her Saint Kizito school uniform. Rose wears her uniform proudly because she was finally able to go back to school last year. Because of her savings from making handbags at MEND, she can finally afford to continue her education.
We caught up with Rose just days after she had taken her Primary 6 school exams. She said she was nervous while taking them and found them difficult. Nevertheless, Rose perseveres because she understands the value of an education, despite all that she’s been through while living in a war-affected region.
When Rose was twelve years old she was abducted by the LRA. After returning home many years later, she’s finally able to continue with her education. Rose has waited over fifteen years to finish schooling, and nothing’s going to stop her now –not even tough exams.
Rose proudly told us, “I want to be a lawyer one day.” She’s not only an inspiration to us at Invisible Children, but she’s also an inspiration to her four children, who she’s currently supporting with the money she’s earned through MEND.
Congratulations on your accomplishments Rose!
